How to become a bookkeeper in Brisbane

The qualification, the timeframe, and what the work pays. If a number changes, we change it.

Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping

That is what most Brisbane employers ask for. It takes 6 to 12 months depending on the provider and how you study.

If you want to do BAS work for clients you need to register as a BAS agent separately.

What it is like here

Brisbane specifically

A lot of Brisbane bookkeeping work is contract rather than salaried, doing the books for several small businesses. That pays better per hour but you carry your own insurance and your own quiet months.

Before you enrol

Three things worth asking

  • Ask whether the course covers the BAS agent education requirement or only part of it.
  • Ask which software they teach, because employers here mostly want Xero and MYOB.
  • Ask what support they give if you want to work for yourself rather than be employed.

We will ask all of that for you. Start with the free check.
