SET Plans that lead somewhere

Every Queensland student needs a Senior Education and Training plan in Year 10. Most are built in a spreadsheet during one interview, by a guidance officer covering two hundred students in a term. This does the work first, so the conversation can be about the student.

Talk to us about your cohort
The problem you already have

Two hundred students, one term

The obligation is real and the documentation has to exist. The time to do it properly does not.

So a plan gets written that says the student wants to work in health, or in trades, and nobody finds out which qualification that needs, what it costs, whether the subjects line up, or whether anyone in the area is hiring.

The plan is filed. Two years later the student picks something else anyway.

What changes

The student arrives with the plan already drafted

Before the interview, the student answers seven questions in about three minutes. They get a real pathway back, not a personality type.

  • The occupation, and what it needs. The exact qualification, licence or ticket, not a field of interest.
  • Which senior subjects it expects. So subject selection is a consequence of the plan rather than a guess made before it.
  • Every provider who delivers it. Compared on price, length and intake, including the fee free and subsidised places.
  • What the work pays here. From advertised roles in South East Queensland, not a national average.
  • Whether it can start now. School based apprenticeships and traineeships are flagged where the student is eligible.

The guidance officer opens one screen with all of that on it. The interview becomes a conversation about whether it is right, instead of thirty minutes of research done out loud.

The one most students have never heard of

They can start the apprenticeship in Year 11

A Queensland student can begin a school based apprenticeship or traineeship while still at school. They are paid, the qualification counts toward their QCE, and they leave school already employed and part qualified.

Most students never find out, because it needs an employer and nobody has time to go and find one.

Where a student's pathway suits it, we flag it and we go and find the employer. The student is introduced by name. There is no cost to the school or the family.

What the school gets back

Reporting a principal will actually read

Where the cohort is heading

How many toward apprenticeships, VET, university and straight to work. By year level, across the whole cohort, updated as plans are completed.

Which subjects they will need

Counted from the plans themselves. If forty students need a subject you run one line of, you find out before the timetable is set rather than after.

Completion, for the record

Who has a plan, who has signed it, who is outstanding. The documentation exists as a by product rather than a separate job.

The student

It does not stop at the school gate

The plan belongs to the student, not to us and not to the school. They keep it when they leave, and it keeps working.

If they change their mind in Year 12, it recalculates. If they finish and want to enrol, every provider is already compared. If they want work first, the pathway is still there when they come back at twenty three.

The student controls what the school can see, and can switch it off. No student is made discoverable to an employer by a school, and we do not put a student forward for work. Those parts apply to adults who have chosen them.

What it costs

One fee per year level

One annual fee for each year level you run it with. Most schools start with Year 10, because that is where the SET Plan obligation sits, and add Year 11 and 12 once they have seen the cohort report.

Nothing is charged per student and nothing is ever charged to a family.

If a student enrols with a training provider or signs an apprenticeship, the provider or the employer pays us, not the school and not the student. That is how we keep the fee to the school low, and it is why we have no reason to push anyone toward a course.

Ask before you decide

If it is easier to ask than to read, email hello@joblinkdapp.com. We answer within a business day.

Tell us roughly what you are trying to work out and we will give you a straight answer, including if the answer is that we are not the right fit.

Trying it

One year level, one term

Run it with a single year level for a term. At the end you get the cohort report and the completion record, and you decide whether it saved anyone any time.

If it did not, we will say so and there is nothing to cancel.
