How to become a legal assistant in Brisbane

The qualification, what it costs, how long it takes, and what legal assistants are paid in Brisbane. Nothing here is a guess. If a number changes we change it.

One qualification

Certificate III in Business (Legal Administration) is what most Brisbane employers ask for. It takes 4 to 6 months depending on the provider and how you study.

If you have years of administration behind you, ask providers about recognition of prior learning. It often shortens the course.

What it is like here

Brisbane specifically

Brisbane firms cluster in the CBD, and the smaller suburban practices are often the easier way in. They will take strong administration experience over legal experience, which the larger firms usually will not.

Before you enrol

Three things worth checking

  • Ask every provider about recognition of prior learning. Experience can count.
  • Ask whether the course leads toward the paralegal diploma if you want to go further.
  • Ask how much of your existing administration experience they will recognise.

We will ask all of that for you if you would rather not. Start with the free check.
