How to become a aged care worker in Brisbane

The qualification, the timeframe, and what the work pays. If a number changes, we change it.

The short answer

Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)

That is what most Brisbane employers ask for. It takes 4 to 6 months depending on the provider and how you study.

You will need a police check and often an NDIS worker screening. Some providers include them.

What it is like here

Brisbane specifically

Brisbane has a lot of aged care work and most of it is shift based. Mornings start early, and providers in the western suburbs often struggle to fill weekend shifts, which is why they will take someone who is still studying.

Before you enrol

Three things worth asking

  • Ask whether they include the police check and NDIS screening, or whether that is on top.
  • Ask how they arrange the work placement, and whether they place you or you find your own.
  • Ask what the shift patterns look like once you are working, because most of it is not nine to five.

We will ask all of that for you. Start with the free check.
